It is almost instinctive to want to believe in local myth. Maybe it is the idea of buried treasures and hidden manuscripts under our feet, that fill us with a misguided sense of intrigue or excitement.
Perhaps it was this warped sensation that falsely persuaded me, when I came across the dubious rumour of a long-forgotten tunnel, deep beneath the market town of Brackley.
